First introduced as a show car in 1964, the Charger, from the Dodge division of Chrysler, has lived several different lives in different classes of vehicles.

Now entering its eighth generation, the 2014 Dodge Charger fits in well with the manufacturer's marketing position as the "power cars" division of Chrysler.

The current model was unveiled at this year's New York Auto Show and has received a substantial makeover.  The muscle car Chargers of the late 1960s were used as inspiration for the updates.

Performance

Two different power plants are available on the Charger, including a 3.6-liter V6 and the powerful and reliable Dodge 5.7-liter Hemi V8 that turns out an amazing 370 horsepower. The five- or eight-speed automatic transmissions transfer energy to the rear wheel- or optional all-wheel drive configuration.  The V6 produces an EPA-estimated 31 miles per gallon highway, which is regarded as the best in class. Exterior

Dodge has redone nearly every single panel on the exterior of the Charger, with the most notable differences being a new front grille, rounded LED headlights, and a leaner appearance over all. Available in nine different trims, including two special 100th Anniversary Limited Editions,  there's a style of Charger to match nearly every driver's preference.
