When it comes to family transportation or even doing some furniture and equipment hauling, there's still no substitute for the tried and true minivan. This vehicle has been a staple of American roadways for decades, and it's not going anywhere soon.

When people think of minivans, they automatically think of the Dodge Grand Caravan, and for good reason. This vehicle has all of the features and class one expects from this road-mobile. Read a review of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan and where Farmingdale, Monroe Township, Freehold and Asbury Park drivers can get behind the wheel.

2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

For drivers who want an outstanding minivan with a great set of features, versatile performance and a streamlined suite of offerings, the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan upgrade is perfect for you. Coming this year is a new standard touchscreen interface and rearview cameras, plus a new standard appearance package for higher level trims.

Tech and Trim

This seven-passenger minivan comes in a choice of four trim levels. The base trim level is the SE, and you can step up to an SE Plus, or an SXT trim, with the GT being the top level. Base equipment is solid, including triple-zone climate control, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, power accessories, six-speaker audio with CD and auxiliary audio. 6.5-inch touchscreen and rearview camera are coming later this year.

Higher level options include satellite radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, fog lights, power lift gate, remote start, automatic headlights, power seat adjust, automatic climate control, heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, voice controls, DVD entertainment system and more.

Performance and Safety

The new 2017 Caravan is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 which produces an impressive 283 horsepower via a six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for this vehicle is 20 mpg, in line with other vehicles in the class.

Safety features include the expected anti-lock brakes, airbags, stability control and active front head restraints. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear parking alert and cross-traffic monitoring, and navigation. A rearview camera is coming later this year and will be standard.

In addition, the IIHS and government crash test groups give the Caravan high marks, earning four stars from government crash tests and a top "good" rating from the IIHS in a number of different crash test areas.

Driving Experience

The Caravan is exceptionally comfortable inside, with intuitive, easy-to-reach controls, gauges and readouts, plenty of room in the potential 143.8 cubic feet of cargo space, and a refined driving experience. It does a good job of mitigating bumps and jars, and has pretty agile handling for a vehicle in its class.

People who drive Dodge Caravans swear by these vehicles for their reliability, performance and safety. This coming model year, the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan will continue this great legacy all around, with a few tweaks that make it even better than before.
