2014 Dodge Avenger Review - Introduced originally as a two-door coupe, the current version of the Avenger is regarded as "one of the most affordable midsize cars of 2014" by U.S. News and World Report.

The present four-door, five-passenger sedan is stylish and loaded with the power and performance options inherent to the Dodge line.

Performance

The base 2014 Dodge Avenger engine is a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder, 173-horsepower with a 4-speed automatic. A 6-speed automatic, paired with considerably more power in a 3.6-liter V6 with 283 horsepower, is also available.  Both power plants are more than adequate for the front-wheel drive sedan.  EPA-estimated mileage is 30 miles per gallon, a strong contender for the class.

Exterior

Available in three different trims, the base model is called SE, with upper models labeled the SXT and the R/T. As you climb the trim ladder, appearance enhancements are increased, with upper trims adding features like automatic head and fog lamps. Dodge's signature crosshair grille adorns the front of the vehicle, and the curved fenders hint at the power underneath the sheet metal.

Interior

For 2014, interior surfaces have been softened with new materials and better detailing all around.  Choose from seating options that include materials and color schemes. An available leather-wrapped steering wheel includes built-in controls for comfort and technology.

The 60/40 split rear seats fold down, with a trunk pass through providing room for larger and longer items when the need arises. A child seat anchor system is standard for second row seating.  

High contrast gauges are highlighted by an oversized tach . Power outlets in the center console make recharging your personal devices a breeze, and the cabin's ambient lighting makes locating those devices easier. 

The available touchscreen dash controller gives you access to the optional Garmin-powered navigation system and SiriusXM Travel Link, which provides real-time traffic, weather, information, and even sports scores.  Bluetooth connections allow for hands-free phone use and streaming your own personal audio services or libraries.

EVIC, the Electronic Vehicle Information Center, is an option that gives you total control over the automobile's functions as well as continuously monitoring vital performance measurements. With this tool, you can pre-set personal choices for audio, climate, and more.

UConnect WiFi options turn your car into its own internet hotspot, enabling you to connect multiple personal devices up to 150 feet from the vehicle.

The available Boston Acoustics audio system drives 6 speakers with digital audio processing and nearly 300 watts of music power.
