Performance
New RAM 1500
The new RAM 1500 comes standard with a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine capable of 269 pound-feet of torque. Two 395-horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engines capable of 410 pound-feet of torque are available. One offers an eTorque mild hybrid system, and it's here that RAM stands out from the rest. The system utilizes a 48-volt, battery-powered and belt-driven motor generator that takes the place of the classic alternator, and the results are improved performance, fuel economy, towing capability, and overall driving feel.
The RAM 1500's two V8 models easily breeze past those of Chevy. Additionally, you can achieve up to 22 mpg in a city like Tinton Falls and 32 mpg down the highway to spots such as Howell or Jackson, NJ with the available 260-horsepower diesel engine. Finally, you can haul payloads of up to 2,300 pounds tow up to 12,750 pounds in a properly equipped RAM 1500 truck.
New Chevy Silverado 1500
There's no mild hybrid tech in the Chevy Silverado 1500, and RAM's V8 engines produce more horsepower than the Silverado 1500's V8 offerings. LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trims, for instance, feature a 355-horsepower, 5.3-liter V8 that puts out 383 pound-feet of torque, while LT and RST offer a turbocharged 310-horsepower, 2.7-liter model that delivers 420 pound-feet of torque.
The Silverado 1500's most powerful engine is a 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The Silverado 1500 actually has a slight edge in towing capacity, but Marlboro Township drivers will prefer the RAM 1500 for hauling cargo. It has a 2,300-pound max payload rating compared to just 2,250 pounds for the Silverado 1500.
Truck Beds
New RAM 1500
Choose between a 5-foot-7-inch box and a 6-foot-4-inch box, and you can enjoy a sizable 53.9 cubic feet of bed volume. Select RAM 1500 models offer as much as 61.5 cubic feet. Plus, the RAM 1500 has something the Chevy Silverado 1500 doesn't offer: a class-exclusive RamBox Cargo Management System option for organizing tools and outboard equipment.

Box sizes in the Silverado 1500 range from 5-feet-8 and 6-feet-6 to 8 feet. Though the truck's Durabed offers up to 63 cubic feet of volume in short box models, its only securing mechanisms are 12 tie-downs; Chevy doesn't offer systematic cargo management.
Safety
New RAM 1500
The new RAM 1500 offers more than 100 passive and active safety features and driver aids. They span a wide gamut too, from situational awareness enhancements like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection to lane management and accident-avoidance systems like LaneSense lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
Lakewood drivers will like the RAM 1500's available trailer detection, which helps them keep their quarry where it's supposed to be. Options such as ParkSense make slipping into a space at your destination much easier. There's even an available ParkView rear back-up camera that uses dynamic grid and center lines to simplify reversing.
New Chevy Silverado 1500
The new Chevy Silverado has nearly identical standard and available safety features. However, people in Freehold will feel more at ease with the RAM 1500, which earned five-out-of-five stars for overall safety by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Silverado 1500 only received four-out-of-five stars from the NHTSA.
