The holiday season is the perfect time to give back to your community. Giving back is one of the best gifts you can give, while also helping your community as a whole. At Freehold Dodge, we support all of the charities in the Freehold, Farmingdale and Monroe Township areas, and want to see them succeed this holiday season. That's why we've mapped different ways that you can get involved, so we can all work together and help those who are in need.

It's important that we see that everyone in the Freehold community has a meal to eat on the holidays. No one should have an empty stomach on Thanksgiving or Christmas, so working with local food banks, who are always looking for volunteers is the best way to ensure that those in need are getting fed. Each year, the Freehold Area Open Door incorporates ways to provide food, funding, mentoring and scholarships for those in need in the Freehold Community.

With the Freehold Pantry Program, the Freehold Area Open Door distributes packaged foods to qualified individuals once a month. These packages of food consist of about three days' worth of supplies, and each year they help provide upwards of 127,000 meals. Individuals who are interested in donating can drop off any amount of packaged food that they please. Volunteers will sort the food into the packages to be distributed. The Pantry is always looking donations and volunteers, especially during the Thanksgiving and December holiday season. The Food Pantry is open from 10am until 2pm Monday through Friday each week and is located at 39 Throckmorton Street.

Along with the Food Pantry, the Freehold Area Open Door also offers a Lunch Program at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 33 Throckmorton St. every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday each week from 11:30am to 1pm. Sandwiches or hot nutritious meals are served out to the Freehold community. Many people in the Freehold community depend on these meals every week, so volunteers and donations are always welcome. While the Soup Kitchen was started by the Freehold Area Open Door, it will be continued under the management of Jim Benedict of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Anyone who is interested in volunteering or donating food to the Soup Kitchen can call (732) 761-0781 to find out more information.

The Emergency Funding and Advocacy Program started by the Freehold Area Open Door provides individuals in the Freehold community with financial assistance to prevent eviction or utility shutoff. This program also works to provide temporary housing and medical needs to members of the community who are in need. Collaborating with the Salvation Army, the Emergency Fund program is located in the same building as the Food Pantry and has assisted 331 individuals this past year.

Donating to the Freehold Area Open Door charity goes a long way in the Freehold community. It benefits hundreds of individuals in need by providing food and emergency funds to stay sheltered and healthy. If you live in the Freehold, Farmingdale or Monroe Township area and are looking to give back to the community this holiday season, you can find out more information at www.freeholdareaopendoor.org.
